Gewenst in Engeland: minder regelgeving en bureacratie
Het gezondheidsonderzoek in het Verenigd Koninkrijk wordt serieus ondermijnd door overmatige regulering en beheersing. Dit is een conclusie in het rapport 'A new pathway for the regulation and governance of health research' dat The Academy of Medical Sciences in januari uitbracht op verzoek van de regering. Een projectgroep onder leiding van Sir Michael Rawlins heeft van ruim 300 betrokkenen bij medisch onderzoek de mening over regelgeving gehoord.

Nederland wordt genoemd als het enige EU-land waar alle de ethische goedkeuring en de authorisatie van klinische onderzoeken bij één organisatie berust: de CCMO.

Aanbevelingen in 'A new pathway for the regulation and governance of health research'.

i.  Creating a new Health Research Agency to rationalise the regulation and governance of all health research. 

ii. Improving the UK environment for clinical trials

iii. Providing access to patient data that protects individual interests and allows approved research to proceed effectively.

iv. Embedding a culture that values research within the NHS.
